Ed I think this is the first time you won't see a shit storm from one of your threads.

I would take the unemployment and look for a good job.

Agreed. I would rather focus on finding a "good" job while collecting.

Sorry to hear so many folks are laid off and out of work. I count my blessings I still have a good job. ((knock wood))

Doesnt your retirement get penalized if you take unemployment? Doesnt it hurt your credit too?

No and no. Why would you think it would hurt your credit?

It killed my pride, I held out as long as I could before filing, but bills gotta be paid. I got the FL $275, 3 whole payments, and was then able to find a job.

A shitty job. I would make just about the same on the crappy FL unemployment as I do working 6 days a week at a job i depise.
What? A smoking hottie like you should have sucked up the unemployment and took a job at a bar for cash!!!

I could understand it hurting your unemployment since you are receiving gov checks.

I assume you meant to put retirement there? If you did

1. Social security and unemployment funds are two separate "buckets"
2. If you're even remotely depending on social security for retirement, I hope you're turning 59 this year.

I'll get ~$500/wk if I draw unemployment, and I won't be applying for any jobs that would pay that little, so I guess I'd fall in the "no" category.
That sucks...I think I know a few people still there (not positive though), worked with them quite a few years ago at Siemens in Boca.

I was on FL unemployment back in 2001 right after 9/11 - that really sucked. $275/week is not enough to cover bills, took me 5 months back then to find a job - the market wasn't that great after 9/11.

Thanks man. It's just weird being in the office now; we all know "the end is nigh!" but we have no idea when. The rumors are "probably months" which makes any kind of planning pretty much impossible. But at least they gave us warning and we've got some time to work with.

It would really depend what the offer is, but my first reaction is to stay here though (and find a company not based in Sweden and Japan ). When they cut our site's workforce by 50% and I lost my team in 2008, they fanned out all over the area. I've stayed in touch with nearly all of them and with some luck, I'll land something here in NC.

Hmm, I wonder? Can't say I know anyone off the top of my head that worked at Siemens. Shoot me a PM with some of the people you know and I'll see if they're still here.
