lots of great history from that era, you don't have to watch if you aren't interested. I love learning the history of that era though.

I agree about the great history. Reading the history is helpful and books have a greater ability to give the big picture. Casualty reports and material losses do have an impact. Narrative history (like Ambrose) is great on the individual level. Written words do have limitations for me though. For showing the brutality and the emotional trauma the soldiers, sailors, and marines went through a movie, or better yet a miniseries, helps me understand a bit better.
