I think I've heard just the opposite (not sure which models), that the oil pickup was facing forward in the sump and oil starvation was a problem.

I thought that it was better since a lot of the stunters used them back in the day. Of course I cant confirm that

Watch the beginning closer. The first dirtbike wipeout was the same guy, and the post is supposed to be vindication of the man's skills.
