Default Great Danes

I need some input from some Dane Owners...

I am looking for a large breed, something to be a family dog yet watchful and protective of the house. (And wont eat the damn cat or my precious Abigail.)

I want something that doesnt shed like a lab or a long breed dog...

Done some research but I want input from some actual people.

Do Weimeraners bark a lot normally? My next door neighbor has two and they literally bark all day long.

I think it's because they are cooped up in a small apartment with nothing to do, but wasn't sure if that was a breed thing or not.

Sorry to threadjack.

They are enormous dogs...like small horse size, so make sure you have the room for him. They are very prone to stomach issues, they drool, they DO shed quite a bit really...and unfortunately their average life span is only about 9 years.

however, they are extremely gentle, loving and affectionate dogs. I don't think make very good guard dogs other than the fact that they are so large people are afraid of them. I've never know one to be aggressive anyway but they say they can be.

Due to size they eat quite a bit of food...

I always loved them too but their size has deterred me....I had a friend with one and did much research before deciding they weren't the right fit for me.

You beat me to it.

And Heather, I don't think Weimeraner's bark any more than other dogs do. (I almost typed "dog doo" there. :lmao ). Dogs bark because they haven't been trained not to.

Well, I didn't know if certain breeds barked more than others.

These poor dogs are really just sad. That bitch is never home and she doesn't take them for walks, she just takes them outside to go to the bathroom. They never get any excercise and she really needs to give them away.

My husband was going to offer to walk them for her everyday before he started working overtime so much.

It'll outweigh you, out-eat you, and stand taller at the shoulder

Rottweiler. They are very sweet dogs and from what I've seen my buddy's dogs don't shed much. Very intimidating looking but they are gentle as can be but let out a healthy bark or growl if they hear a strange noise.
