So I got a new job...
...about a month ago. It was a temp-perm position in the EDI Help Desk of a behavioral insurance company. Well, Thursday they asked me if I would like to go permanent. I am already making 40% more as a temp here than at my last job, and now will probably be making even more. Honestly, I wasn't concerned with how much more, as I make a good living already. If it pays what I think, it will be another 2k/year raise from what I'm currently making. I am SOOOOOOO excited!! Now I can go buy a friggin bike!

Not even close...not only do I have to learn the intricacies of our website and claims software, but I have to learn some of the details of the claims process as well in order to understand the errors people get during claims submissions. It's definitely a challenge, and one I'm rather enjoying. The fact that I have PC support experience IS helping to a small degree, as sometimes upgrades and browsers cause the problems. At least I don't dread going to work anymore, that's a definite plus! I only deal with providers, so it's a hell of a lot better than the CS position I first applied for. The bennies are good, and much cheaper than I expected. The commute sucks, but I finally filled my tank last week and did the math and the car (yeah, the multi-colored one I had last year at the party) is getting between 26-29mpg! Last week it got 27mpg, and when I filled up yesterday, I got 29mpg on that tank. Other than the time in travelling 40 minutes each way, I have no complaints...all highway miles, baby! |

Beats schlepping the taxi. I doubt you have to threaten to cut the balls off of any of your co-workers at the insurance company. Good luck with the new job.
