I chatted with NHRA guys one time in the pits (thats what I love about NHRA, how accessable the drivers and crew are). They said its a crap ton of traveling, really long race weekend hours, hot, sweaty, dirty, exhausting... but really fun. They said that not all of them are employed during off season in the shop, but the ones that are that develop the cars and tech for the next year have a pretty sweet gig.

Chris and I were talking about that after the bike show. While on one hand its a great job, it may take away my passion for riding for myself. Its like if I have a bad day I can hop on the bike and go for a ride. If I had a job in the field I may not want to do that.

I'm just guessing that race teams wouldn't hire people straight from schools, they would hire from shops. And most bike shops pay beans.

At the same time, they might so they can mold them into something they want/need.

That, and more. There are people that will try to edge into the business and do it for so much cheaper than you just to get into the industry. Passion has a way of devaluing a position.

In fact, the guy that was the announcer for the shows was fired because a guy stepped up to do it for free as a "resume builder." Now Advantstar knows they can get people to do it for free, why would they pay someone? I don't know how you pay rent with a "resume builder" but... it happens a lot.

I do more than enough gynecology in the er, its sometimes like a damn walk in clinic. Had one with pus draining from the vagina the other night, if that doesnt ruin your day I dont know what does. And this one wasnt one of the ones with 9 babies and 10 babies daddies.

You pay the rent, with a 'resume builder', by having a day job that you actually make a living with. Up here everyone, who is associated with racing, has a day job. It might be in he industry, but usually it isn't.
