I can appreciate your stance on the subject at hand, especially coming from your point of view.

What I was debating was the "no matter how small / can't trust them" line of thinking.

Basically, if a co-worked WERE to zap you with a shock pen they are instantly deemed incapable of being trusted in a life or death situation.

A shock pen is different from using work equipment that is known to have 220 on it. I wouldn't pursue someone for a shock pen. Using work equipment that has potentially fatal levels of amperage is another thing.

Even putting aside the issue of safety, for which I would also fire someone if in the position to do so, it's also putting the EQUIPMENT at risk.

See, I was right: You didn't really mean it.

Again, I understand your position, I just don't deal well with absolutes.

Does this mean I have to start doing work now?

Plausible deniability. You thought he was coding.

It depends on what you consider on the job. If I am sitting in my cube getting a shocking pen, I wouldn't do anything about. If I am out in the plant "on the job" with my hands on equipment and I get shocked, then yes I would pursue it.
