These type of incidents occur frequently and I'm no expert or don't follow the trial outcomes, but this was bigger than the abuse of animals in my opinion.
Don't know about everywhere, but here in Az, a first time offender can expect 1 1/2 years for a class 5 felony (which dogfighting is classified under).

Anyway what it really comes down to is that if the NFL banned all players who have a felony then they wouldn't have 1/2 of their players.

The NFL is a business, and with that being said...

Vick back in the NFL will sell a shit ton of his jerseys, to both real Vick fans, and also people who would wear them to piss others off, (much like TO jerseys). He will also keep his team (and the NFL) at or near the top of the news cycle (on other than strictly sports stations) for the next couple of weeks. You can't buy exposure like that.
It is a very polarizing scenario, and that usually breeds lots of interest.

No they'd have the same number of players on their roster, it just wouldn't be entertaining to watch.

Anyway, it always amazes me when men who are professionals is violent, brutal sports commits a violent crime and people are suprised. MOST athletes are thugs who happen to be expremely athletic. The praise from their gifts, and the extra testosterone these men have, makes them violent and cocky.

Kinda why we dont hear of a lot of crime in say, competitive chess.

Gotta agree with that 100%.

Although I saw a chess / boxing match where they fought a round between moves on the chess board. Fight ended upon KO or checkmate.
Or maybe that was one of my vivid dreams...

Like from howard stern Private Parts:
Researcher: The average radio listener listens for eighteen minutes. The average Howard Stern fan listens for - are you ready for this? - an hour and twenty minutes.
Pig Vomit: How can that be?
Researcher: Answer most commonly given? "I want to see what he'll say next."
Pig Vomit: Okay, fine. But what about the people who hate Stern?
Researcher: Good point. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day.
Pig Vomit: But... if they hate him, why do they listen?
Researcher: Most common answer? "I want to see what he'll say next."

People will still watch him play, even if they hate him.
