Well, if we're talking 916/996/998 vs. Aprilia, I'd take the Ducati. Back then it looked like a Ducati and nothing else did.
The new Japanized Ducatis... not so much.
Aprilias still look like Aprilias, and while they might not always be the most handsome bikes out there, they get full marks for maintaining their distinctive styling cues.

I've never been super wild about the 1098 looks. I think I'd take the RSV4 Factory over the 1098. That being said, I'd take a 999S over both. I love that bike...and I'm not sure why.

im trying to figure where you get japanized out of the 10/1198. i also can't understand why thats supposed to be a bad thing.

If anything, the Ape looks more like the latest generation of Japanese bikes. The Ducati still has smooth, flowing lines. I'll never love the fish face, but I will never like the new angular anime\cell-shaded styling either.

Just my opinion... has been since they went to this latest style.
And why it's a "bad" thing... well, it's not "bad", but Italian bikes are supposed to have their own look.
The current look (once again, in my opinion) borrows too much from current and previous YamaKawaHonzuki designs. It is nowhere near as distinctive as previous generations.

Not to mention the 1098 headlights are kindalike ripoffs of the Triumph 675

Just to be clear...I do like the RSV4 and I would want to ride it and the 1198 to make a final decision IF I was going to buy an Italian bike BUT at this point I do lean toward the Duc.

The only Duc I've ever ridden was a 2005 999R and I've never ridden an Aprilia.

I think that's the bike my friend that owned the 999R was thinking about getting at one time. I honestly haven't been around many Aprilia's but I see that the dealership where I bought my Yammi's does sell them now so I'll check them out since it's close to the house.
