Check your State to see how they are handled, or even with your hospital. If there's a decent demand for them (or you know some people in the hospital) you can get hired on in something resembling an apprentice position and learn on the job as well as have the hospital pay for your certification classes. Our hospital has a pretty good education department that assists with job related college programs. Get into the right program and they'll cut you a check for your certification/degree ever semester to cover classes, books, and lab fees.

No prob. I'm in school now for Billing and Coding, but the more classes I take the less I want to deal with this shit, so I'm starting the Radiology program probably this summer. As long as I maintain a B average (fucking cake) the hospital will comp me for nearly 100% of it.

I was in the same boat, still am sorta. I used to work in insurance doing commercial property and casualty and workers comp. As much as a shit job as the P&C was, the Workers Comp shit damn near made my hair fall out. I'd come home and the only thing on my mind was work. Besides figuratively bringing home my work, often times I'd literally bring it home as well. Shit was for the dogs. I work in a hospital now starting near the bottom of the ladder, but already my pay is pretty decent for having no practical experience (after all the differential pay kicks in I'm at about $15.00/hr.). I'm not in the greatest job in the world, but I've got my foot in the door for some very nice opportunities for growth. And when I go home, my work stays at work (except this week, but that's an exception).
