Yep. I was well aware of the ability of telcos to track your position using your cell phone but I didnt not know that they keep a running record of those positions at all times.

What property am I "renting" when I use my cellphone? The cell towers and signals?

Maybe, but that's kinda like saying it's OK for my landlord (and the govt) to put a mic & camera in my apartment just because I'm only a renter.
