iPhone alarm glitch leaves users fuming - Page 3

I've gotten used to using my phone as an alarm. The phone is there, why should I use another object when this one will do the job? So, everyone here thinks everyone else should have a backup plan in case your alarm doesn't work? What if the power goes out? Your old skool clock won't do so well...

I've been using my cellphone as an alarm for years. I don't don't see the need to have a bedside clock alarm when my phone does everything.

My multi-decade old digital alarm clock has a battery backup...

The iPhone is a computer.

There's an old saying; To err is human, to really fuck shit up requires a computer.

While it's nice to integrate EVERYTHING you need into a handy computer that's always in your pocket (it replaces so many individual devices anymore, don't it?), the obvious problem of putting all of one's eggs in one basket remains unchanged from when such cute colloquial sayings like that came to be...long before that iPhone was even a concept.

And once you've put all those eggs in that one basket, er iPhone, you have to realize it's, after all, just a computer...and we all know they NEVER fuck up.

So, you put your entire life an faith into one stupid device that will fuck your ass up when it fails...or you remember the eggs, and you use those quaint dedicated devices that actually work and have a far better "uptime", and you laugh at the tech victims.

Droid only let me down once when it was brand new. I didn't realise the speakers were on the back and layed it face up on the chair next to my bed...

You'll have to excuse me, I'm having a tech backlash. I just turned 50, and it's either that, or start yelling for kids to get outta my yard.

All my life, I've been the guy that had all the latest gadgets, and tech toys.

Anymore, I don't care for any of it, and care even less to read the fucking manual for it. I guess I just reached saturation.

I now lust for simple, elegant, self-contained, computer-independent, dedicated gear, that just simply WORKS.

I still have all the tech shit, and if I really need to, I can use it. I just don't like it anymore, and find that it often complicates simple tasks that we used to accomplish previously with far simpler tools, and with greater reliability.

I guess I could sum it up as; SIMPLIFY.

See, told you I was getting old.

I use my phone as an alarm, but I've seen where the clock on my phone and others have gotten screwed up since it's linked with the service. I was just saying that if you REALLY need to get up, then have a backup device, not just multiple alarms set on your phone.
