There were some major changes to the Transportation code that were effective January 1 of this year. All due to this bill that was passed: http://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs...l/HB02357F.HTM
Yeah, my bad. Must have been a link to an older version. Doh!

Section 504, not 502.

I'm not saying what the cop did was right. Hell, I'm shocked he waited until the guy was cuffed to take the helmet off. And, the way THAT went down was painful to watch. The entire exchange was tragic. My "favorite" part of the video was the backup officer stopping the already irritated traffic to cut across all lanes to exit.
You also probably didn't fail the 'attitude test', by waving your arms and shouting, "What?! What?!"

Better video showing the initial interaction with the cop.

I think that's the same video as the one that was posted second in the original post. But notice there is a cop with his lights on right away and the dude looks back? Yeah, if you weren't doing anything wrong, you might have wanted to pull off the highway and stop right then. Just a thought.

< sarcasm >

I'm always amazed when someone, who is obviously so well behaved in the presence of police, has such a negative outcome from the encounter.

Funny, that....

Act like an asshole...get TREATED like an asshole.

Seems like a fairly simple concept to me.

I've gotten fairly used to hearing people, up here, whine about their interactions with police.

I haven't been stopped in years (so now I've jinxed myself ) back back when I used to get stopped a few times a season on my bike, I would generally get a warning. Hell, one cop who stopped me for 30 Kmh (about 20 MPH over) in a 50 Kmh (30 MPH) zone took great pains to explain to me how unreasonably quickly the limit drops from 80, to 60, to 50. We then sat around and had a half hour long talk about motorcycles, in general.

And there are people on the local board who, for some unknown reason, get stopped frequently and are constantly asking for advice about how to fight their tickets. Then they start with the FTP crap, removing any doubt as to why they got the ticket; 'attitude test' failure.
