A dropped dollar and a car running are not the same fucking thing. 1 dollar, nobody around, sure I'll pick it up. A paper bag of $500? I'd pick it up but take it to the police station.

One thing I hate about living in the city is I have to always lock up. When I lived in a house in the country I never locked up and when my bike was in the garage the keys stayed in. Just seemed that if any thefts happend in the country they happened outside the house. Mainly because if you got caught in someone's house you were as good as dead. Infact that reminds me of a new country song out where I like a quote from it. Even though I don't believe in God I want to put this on my apartment door. Though it'd probably scare all of my whiney ass peace sticker rocking hipster neighbors. "Our house is protected by the good Lord and a gun. You might meet them both if you come here not welcome son"

I can't think of a single "good" reason to ever go anywhere in a public place and leave my vehicle running and unattended. Or not running but unattended with the keys in the ignition.
I mean, seriously....it takes a matter of seconds to re-start the vehicle....just secure the damn thing and re-start it when you get back. Why go LOOKING for the hassle of having a vehicle stolen?! Late Edit: Having said all of that, there is still NO excuse for being a thief. NONE. Last edited by KSGregman; 09-03-2010 at 01:53 PM.. |

And in Florida we do it all the time in the Summer. Sometimes I'll have the dog with me. Truck stays running with the A/C on. If I am going to be more than a few minutes, I can lock the doors with my spare key.

This is what we do for our older vehicles. Our truck we lock and start it with the key fob.

When I was in Europe, you got a fat ticket for leaving your car unlocked, keys in it or no. They felt that it invited "joy riding" by teenagers which could be dangerous for both the joy riders and the public at large. I agree to an extent, but I also think that everyone should be required to have trigger locks on their guns when not on their person.
