I can see the eagle being curious, but I really don't think losing a pet is a valid concern. Unless I'm way off base, eagles and predatory birds can only carry a few pounds. So unless it was the runt of a litter of Teacup Poodles, the dog should remain on the ground.

15 lb critters would easily be it's next meal

Yep, it's a big bird. No doubt there. But having a big wingspan doesn't automatically translate to being able to carry large prey away in flight.

Seems unlikely it would target such a large prey, but if it did it would be eating it on the ground. No way that bird is flying with it... which brings us back to the original post.
