An innocent until proven guilty man should/would simply comply with a lawful order from an officer & not resist. Could it be abused/mis-used? Sure, but then so can buckshot/billy-clubs/jack-boots/pepper-spray/etc.

And oddly enough one of the alternatives to a device like this is beating him with a club.

Here is a video that shows it better.
Great vid from "Future Weapons" that shows people getting shot with one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtHi_0Qc3Ts

Does anybody remember the Oakland cop who thought he was pulling his taser and shot a man in the back who was being held on the ground?
Imagine now, if they load the wrong round. They'd kill people three deep.. |

Now, lethal/non-lethal rounds that can be fired from the same weapon presents a different safety challenge. Come to think of it though, I think that if I were the cop facing down a 'bad guy', I would prefer a non-lethal/lethal combination in the same weapon. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be screwing around with a tazer with my primary weapon still holstered if it's my life on the line when things go seriously pear-shaped. I think 1 or 2 tazer rounds backed-up by #00 in the same magazine would make me feel more comfortable, personally. Last edited by Kerry_129; 08-25-2009 at 02:25 PM.. |

I don't like it.
Cops were issued tasers as a less than lethal alternative. How many videos or news stories have we seen where the cop decided to use a taser rather than diplomacy or handcuffs? Now they want to extend their range to 100 feet? Fuck that. If someone is truly a threat at 100 feet, shoot them.
