In NC, you can go in to the court house and talk to the DA before hand, sometimes they'll deal, sometimes not. I got off for about $500 on my last ticket using a lawyer. Good luck, bro.

1) Depends. Are you in "stunt driving" law territory?

2) You want to apply for a "first attendance", at which you can discuss options with The Crown. You also want to request discovery of any and all evidence they have (officer's notes, etc.).

I could have been charged with street racing. But, since I pulled out and passed and pulled back in and slowed back down, he only wrote me for 31+ over.

It was a pretty shitty situation. I was boxed in, car in front and a car in behind. An SUV to my left had me boxed in for what seemed like a few kms. I saw a chance to get out of there, downshifted and rolled into the throttle. Put about 5-6 car lenghts on that group and pulled back over to the right lane and slowed down.. And there they were, had a speed trap set up. I didn't even see it..

Tell me about it. I do speed on the highway, but usually just a little faster than the flow of traffic.

It's my first real speeding ticket too. The only other ticket I've had is a failure to obey a road sign.

I don't know about NS, but here we have ex police officers that will act as lawyers for you. The cost is usually about the same as the fine, but they try to get rid of the points, which will save assloads on insurance.

I believe they even waive their fees if they don't win.

'round these parts: Yep. They just want your money anyhow.

May as well pay some extra and not have the downstream impact of increased insurance etc
