have you tried the NEW masks? we have them in Korea... you no longer ware the inserts they go in the mask.... the thing that sucks is you HAVE to wear glasses so you have to find a place to put them when the new mask is on. the nice thing is the insert doesn't touch your face so it doesn't cause head aches and stays put.... also vision is MUCH better.

I wear my contacts every exercise.... the old masks never had a problem... the new ones have 100x the air flow over the eyes... so my contacts dry out... but as long as I blink frequently I'm good...
I don't know, any time I have asked about vision and flying jets, the answer has been the same. No Lasik

As for the masks... no. I've only tried the ONLY ONES we have.
the insert has never touched my face when I was wearing the mask either so But I can see how they could improve the vision... wouldn't take much.

Yeah, we can do it, just on our own dime, like you said.

That's why I wait. I think in the next 5 years the Army will pay for Lasik as well.

interesting... AFAIK the airforce is responsible for any issues that arrise because of a fucked up surgery. now if I don't take care of my eyes in the post op care then yeah I'm liable... but if scar tissue causes the problem... I'm not.

as far as you taking vacation time to heal... that's bs... (if your in the military... which I forget if your military or dod civilian) they offer convalescence leave... that CAN be rejected by your commander... but he would be royally fucked if you had issues and there was no real reason, ie mission or manning, for you not to take a couple days off.

the Military does both PRK and Lasik... and I know of several fighter pilots that have had it done... I don't know which one... as I was told by our Optometry tech (talked to him about eye surgery during the exercise last week) that they do both... depending on what the doc says is best for your eye... that's the surgery you get

Army is responsible for any issues that arise from a fucked up surgery that they covered.
If you do it on your own, it's all you.

ahh ok... why would you go elsewhere if the army pays for it and does it?

Tricare will not cover you to go get it done outside. but they will fly you to a base that does it... I did Air Evac in AK... flew people to Lackland, Travis, and Colorado Springs for eye surgery... for both AF and Army... even a couple Navy
