That is steep. I found a good one local to me (probably too far for you) for $75 which was middle of the road AND they supply a gun/ammo. Some do not.

The 12 hours is 10 hours class room which is the Basic NRA Pistol Class and Ohio CCW Laws. The other 2 hours is range time.

Some, as you may have found, do it in one weekend and some spread it out over a couple weeks in the evenings.

OH charged $67 for the permit that lasts 5 years.

There's a lot of good things about PA. Cheap CCW permits, no charge for MSF. I can dig it.

I applied for the lifetime permit, which is $125 total. $50 of it goes to the city, $75 of it goes to the state. You can get a 4 year permit for $40, but that seemed pointless at my age. Original permit plus two renewals, and I'm already at the price of the lifetime. And that's if prices stay the same, which we know they won't. The permit in Indiana is simply to carry, whether open or concealed. They discourage open carry simply because people have a habit of freaking out if they see you walking down the sidewalk with a gun on your side, but it is allowed.

PA has no lifetime. It's simply the $19/5yr.

Can you open carry without a permit? We can not. Can any state open carry w/o a permit?

Talked to Target World today. They said that I can take the CCW class, but it won't do anything for licensing. Fine by me, not worried about licensing, just want to take the class for safety and knowledge. Hope to learn something from it. I get into Cinci on Tuesday evening, so I'll probably head up there Wednesday night for some shooting and to register for the class. Then I'll check Vandalia's hours and maybe go up there Thursday while the other guns are fresh in my head and try out the Springfields. I might end up buying something while I'm there, if Ohio doesn't have a problem with Indiana residents buying guns over there. I'll find out when I go to TW in a few days.

Captain Morgan

If your interested in buying a gun, I would do as your doing and go to Target World and shoot a variety of guns that they have. But if you are willing to buy, I would also look into a place called Shooters Supply in Loveland (not far from Cincy depending where) the prices are probably some of the best in the area. Between my younger brother, my dad they have probably bought I'd say 20+ guns from them. They are very easy to talk to and deal with, I would recommend buying from them over TW. My gripe with TW (the prices are a little high) but they just try to sell someone a gun that is above and beyond what they really need. I've been in there before and they were trying to sell a $1000+ Kimber to a young couple that was just wanting to get into shooting, and they had asked for a nice entry level gun.

That's just my $.02. I use TW for the range, and to try out a few models if I happen to be in the market, but for buying I go to Shooters Supply.
