I agree with this in EVERY way. When people ask me why I left and subsequently divorced my husband, I tell them "For the sake of the children."

But sadly isn't this just COMMON SENSE??
Even without children I agree with him, and having done the "loveless, happier to see the dog" kinda thing, it really makes you appreciate the good thing you got when you have it. |

My mother's husband's son is divorced. He and his ex do a good job being civil around their two daughters and both take the kids out to do things.
I lived with my father most of my life. My mom moved away. I have two brothers. They both wanted to stay with dad so they told me to stay too so we could all be together. I had a pretty "normal" child hood. I had my dad that did his best to raise 3 crazy boys. I would go see my mom during holidays and summer break. We all got our education, had friends, and socialized like any other kid. My oldest brother hated my mom for leaving for a very long time. My middle brother was the crazy one and did whatever. I am the youngest so I was the soft one I guess. Of course I've been at the age where I don't care why they got divorced or whatever. It's in the past. Hell I still don't know why they got divorced other than the usual "they're unhappy together" type stuff. Don't care. Wasn't my marriage. Kids are smarter than adults give them credit for. As long as you're truthful and explain to them why the events are happening around them, they'll understand or will learn to understand over time. Lying to them, keeping secrets, and acting different isn't going to help. |

It's not really common sense, it's how much attachment you have to your children and how much your "love life" is worth compared to being in your child's life. As a man, we get screwed on that end and the consequences of divorce could mean being written out of our child's life unless we fight and fight hard.
