I guess that's what happens when you rent to someone, but never do inspections. This isn't the sort of thing that happens overnight, after all. If it was a grow op, they'd lose the house too.
Many explosives don't blow when they are burnt but, then again, if they were afraid to send a robot in then there are likely a fair number in there that would blow if you sneezed on them. Maybe the economy is so bad in California that they want to compete with The Grand Canyon?

After my last renter, I'm out of that business. Trying to sell the house instead.

Mine is in a right-of-way for a future hiway. Been that way for 5 years It was put on hold 3 years ago because the DOT ran out of money...and I can't sell it because I have to disclose that it's in the ROW so no one will BUY it. Just hoping I don't get the splintered shaft on it from the state when it DOES get purchased

We've rented out a townhouse (the wife's when we were dating) since 2005 and so far so good. We've gone through 3 tenants and haven't gotten shafted yet. *fingers crossed*
We'd like to sell it too but the market has not been right for that since the bottom fell out. We're getting closer to being about to get out from under it without taking a loss...may even make a dollar or two but not much...but not quite yet I don't think. Luckily it is in a real decent area. |

Another slumlord here.
If the tenant pays on time and doesn't need me to come by, why would I do an "inspection"? When I was a renter, I would have felt like my privacy was being violated if my landlord was constantly dropping by.
