Default Helmet Repair

I don't have a fancy paint job on my helmet as it gets scuffed, scratched and scrapped all the time. I was carrying my Shoei by the chin guard and I hit the open visor against a large wood door. If I had hit any other part of the helmet it would just be another scratch. But I hit the open edge of the visor. It broke the ratchet mechanism on one side.

I cussed up a storm, but rode home OK. I went to the Shoei website and ordered a repair kit. Only $15 and $9.50 shipping.

Here's the broken parts and the replacement. Took three days to ship and a half-hour to replace both sides. Plus, the instructions show how to adjust the shield for a tight fit against the opening. I'll test it later.

I busted the ratchet mechanism on one side on my HJC CL-MAXX a couple years back - ordered a new one for like 15 bucks and it took all of 5 minutes to replace and has been great since.

Now if I can stop rolling the damn thing across cement...

The chin bar has more scratches than a tree in a bear cage.

Let me know how your adjusting goes. I can't get the outter corners on the top to seal, makes a nice whistle at speed.

Yep, only five minutes of replacing the mechanism, but a half hour of getting a towel, finding the right screwdriver, getting the camera, getting a brighter light for seeing black on black, adjusting the shield, cleaning off my grubby fingerprints, etc.

Yeah, the shield has to come off each time to adjust the screws. The instructions are translated directly from Japanese. First check the rubber beading around the opening. They sell replacements.
