This building was built in the 1890s and has been renovated more times than I can count, just in the 12 years that I've worked here. The top and bottom of that open section have steel girders, but all that you can see in the opening as Rider states; steel strapping and the back of the drywall.

As to "Now Open" it should more likely read "Was just opened, now closed."

You can see the new brick facade that was put on top of the original brick job without additional supports. The original wall just couldn't take the weight of the facade. There should have been a beam under the facade to support the weight.

If you look carefully, there's a massive steel girder at the bottom of the section that collapsed.
