Default Toyota quality to be total shit within 3 years

TOKYO (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) plans to cut auto parts procurement costs by around 30 percent over three years to help it regain profitability, media said on Tuesday.

Toyota has asked its suppliers to cut prices of some parts by 30-40 percent for cars that will hit the market by 2013, the Asahi daily said. The Nikkei business daily also said Toyota plans to switch to less expensive materials and parts.

Toyota spokesman Takanori Yokoi said the automaker had made "various suggestions including cost reductions" to suppliers on Monday, but he declined to disclose details.

Toyota, which has forecast its second straight annual operating loss, plans to overhaul its car designs to help cut costs, the two newspapers said.

Toyota's request for a 30 percent reduction in costs -- the biggest in 10 years -- comes as the automaker is trying to sharpen its price competitiveness in emerging markets, the Asahi said.

Growing concern over the yen's continued strength is also behind the move, the Asahi said.

Toyota's shares gained 1.6 percent to 3,780 yen while the broader Nikkei 225 index .N225 advanced 1 percent.

The Koreans must be cutting into their market and they also must figure that Americans have dealt with lower quality American vehicles for so long that they can maybe get away with less quality as well. American cars have gotten better and many American's buy them just because they are American but that probably won't work for Toyota.

I could be wrong and just sitting in an office bored and babbling.

Considering I plan on driving my 216,000 mile Toyota till the wheels fall off or my daughter turns 16, I'm not too worried about it right now. Will certainly keep it in mind when it's time to buy a car again.

In doing car research I found the matrix (discontinued now) has problems with just randomly shutting off. You lose everything including power steering. But toyota refuses to claim any problem, big shock.

Toyota sucks

Sad to hear this....
I have been a Toyota fan for years...driving my 8th one and love every minute of them. My Dad had a 98 Tacoma 47K, Mom has had 2 Camry's each with 100+K, Older sister has had 4, 2 trucks with 375K each, a Previa Van with 100K and an 06 4-Runner which has over 200K. My younger sister has 2 Tercels with about 75K each, brother has 1 Scion xB with 100K+ and here is the list of ones I have owned.

1982 Pickup-80K
1984 Pickup-90K
1986 Pickup-130K
1989 Pickup-31K (Totalled after 9 mo)
1990 Pickup-12K (Stolen after 6 weeks)
1991 Corolla-201K
1994 Tacoma-170K
1998 Tacoma-135K and counting

I have always been a supporter and fan as none of the above listed vehicles have had anything more than the battery and starters replaced. I think they are bullet proof. Sad that this might very well be changing.
