I agree with both of these statements.

Hollywood has been out of ideas for the last 20 years. Where have you been?

I honestly don't think that they ever had any original ideas. Think of any of your favorite movies and I guarantee that it's a ripoff of a book.

They've been out of ideas for a couple of decades, at least. My friends always make fun of me when another movie comes out and I say that it's just a remake of a Kurosawa film from the '50s or '60s. (Yojimbo = Last man Standing, Magnificent Seven = Seven Samurai) They've so run out of ideas that they're only reaching back as far as the -70s and '80s now. No one else noticed that "Pelham 123" is just a remake of a classic '70s film "The Taking of Pelham 123"?

And they're knocking off English TV programmes too. Did anyone else know that "The Office" was originally done in England, with a different cast? How about "Life on Mars"?

And then we have "Land of the Lost"; a remake of a campy '70s Saturday morning live action kids' show. Now it's intentional and ham-handed slapstick comedy, rather than the unintentional stuff that the original had.

I'm sure it'll involve America being at fault and we'll win but at the end we'll come to realize our faults and become one with the world and sing kumbaya with everyone in peace.

I don't pay attention to new movies much. Besides cheesy ass comedies like Mall Cop or the Hangover is there an original movie that is actually good?
