Grills <BBQ>
what brand do you have, how do you rate it?
I have had a Cook-On (brand no longer selling in my state), that has lasted about 6+ years, with the internals being replaced once. not bad, did it's job. But now i am starting to cook for more people, more often, and figure it is time to get something quality. My initial web searches have yielded much hate for char-broil and similar. I continue to see nothing but top rating for weber, so i am really inclined to pick up one. thoughts?

I have a Brinkman SS grill. It's fantastic but it burns real hot on on the lowest setting. Any thick steaks will require indirect heat. Burgers and chicken will do ok though.
If you want to smoke I recommend a Primo jr. |

Grillmate? Propane grill
It was her grill, and it's about 5 or 6yo? Its ok. The burner guards underneath are wearing out and one collapsed. We cook on it about every other to every 3 days. I want a charcoal grill BAD because it makes food taste so much better. I could give a fuck about potential carcinogens from grilling so much, we all have to die. It might as well taste ok on the way to grave. |

I have an old Kenmore that I've replaced the burner on twice. It's about 15 years old.

Family has owned nothing but Weber's.
My father loves them. I think they're ok but I think it has more to do with the model he chose rather than the actual brand. Never had a problem with it, it's just not big enough. Personally, I'd spend the money and do a built in grill complete with side burners and counter-top. |

Go with the Weber.
More expensive than your typical Home Depot grill but much better quality. IMO, until you get north of $1000, you can't get a better grill than a Weber.

I assume you mean a charcoal grill, not clean, reliable propane... or what we like to call down here, "God's Gas".
I have an Aussie 'Walk-A-Bout' that I picked up at Home Despot a couple of months ago. http://www.aussiegrills.com/aussie_s...cat=251&page=2 Thus far I have no complaints. The lid hinges are solid, the vents are a little stiff but work fine, and the lid latch makes a nice safety feature for when I have to leave the grill unattended. And it was a good bit less expensive than a comparable Weber. I have nothing bad to say about Weber, besides that their reputation has driven up their price and it was more than I wanted to spend for a grill I'd only use maybe a dozen times a season. If you're grilling every weekend or a few times a week, the Weber might be worth the investment.

From the grills I have used it is hard to find a better sub $1k propane grill than a Weber. They have very even heat, are less prone than most to flare ups, and parts for rebuilds are available and reasonably priced. With the exceptions of burners and flavorizer bars everything in them is good for 10+ years too. For charcoal I have used a Big Green Egg a few times and it was very nice, but the charcoal itself is a pain so I stick with propane.

We recently purchased a Char-Griller. It has two sides, one gas and the other charcoal. You can also by a smoke box to attach to the side of the charcoal grill. So far it seems like a decent grill.
