No it was in neutral, but even in neutral just because everything is spinning, it'll spin the output shaft just from the tiny little bit of friction that it has. You can grab the sprocket and stop it anytime with your fingers, it's basically just freewheeling. Cars do the same thing in neutral, even automatics
