i wouldn't be super liberal it doesn't take alot..

do you have a rear stand? if not its a pain in the ass..

basically if you have a rear stand i will spray the outer side first letting the chain rotate fully about 2-3 times by spinning the back tire, then the middle of the chain same way and finally the inner side of the link - then do nothing - let it sit there for 15 minutes - anything more is fine too - 30 minutes, 3 hours, 6 days, 8 years - whatever... it just needs 15 minutes to dry..
