Question for those of you in the great white north...

One of my co-workers lives/works in Toronto, and I assume he's from there but for sure is Canadian by birth. Instead of saying 24/7 (or writing it that way) he says 7/24. I don't want to ask him why he's all ass-backwards,

so I thought I'd ask "you." Is this a Canadian thing? A province thing? A him thing?
