Pet help - Fleas

So we discovered on Tuesday that both cats have fleas.

Wednesday husband bug bombs the house, bathes both cats with supposed flea shampoo and then gives them that oily treatment stuff on the back of their necks.

Last night we noticed that not only are the fleas still there, they are actually crawling around in the oily stuff that is supposed to kill them!

He bought the Hartz brand of shampoo and treatment and we are wondering:

1. How long is supposed to take for the fleas to die?
2. If they are not dying, how soon can we use a different treatment(one that actually works)
3. Which treatments actually work?

Any suggestions?

Haven't had cats in a few years, but the way that you started out is good. Unfortunately the eggs that haven't already hatched end up hatching a couple of weeks later and you end up having to do it all over again. There may have been eggs that hatched just after you did the first hit.

You just have to be persistent. One problem is that once you get the fleas to leave the cats alone, they'll start jumping on you.

(Get a prescription from the vet for flea drops that go behind the cat's neck)

First thing I'd do is get rid of the Hartz. It's junk, and quite frankly, has been linked to health problems in dogs. Seizures and such.

Shave their hair off and soak them in gasoline.

There's really only one way to really get rid of fleas in your home, and it's a lot of work.

Basically, the trick is to NEVER STOP RUNNING THE VACUUM.

Carpets, under furniture, anywhere that the pets hang out. VACUUM, VACUUM, VACUUM!!!

I had fleas on both my cats and used a product called Advantage. You have to get it from a vet but it killed them REALLY fast. I didn't see a single flea on either of them a day after treatment. It is kinda pricey but works great and will kill all the fleas in your home.

You can mail order it. We use it and never have fleas.

Good stuff. We used that on the cat and FrontLine on our dog. No fleas.

We tried Hartz one time on the dog to save $$ and he had a reaction/skin irritation and we tossed it.
