Good point. While there really is no way to be completely prepared for a disaster, good decision making afterward will definitely mitigate the effects. In the case of Katrina the bad decisions made by the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans both prevented help from arriving in a timely manner and dramatically increased the suffering of the people affected. The Bush administration shares the blame by not making the decision to override the state and city officials and immediately ride in, they should never have waited for aid to be requested like they did.

Close....just need to get the generator and propane backup in place. Should have that by fall.
My house sits at a pretty substantial elevation compared to the rest of the county. So I'm relatively flood resistant. I installed a 1000 gallon precharge tank under the house last summer with a pump for prep of water loss, generally keep at least a months worth of food in the pantry, and have MRE's there as well. This is assuming that my house stays somewhat in tact. IF I owned any weapons I'd have PLENTY of ammo. I've not gotten to the point of constructing an all out "bomb shelter" yet. But I have access and an invitation to one if I need it.

Only if you have a generator, to keep it cold. After all, we aren't English.
