Default MMS for iPhones today...

MMS (picture) messaging will be avaliable today. Here is the latest from AT&T about how it's going to roll out..

"According to the report, the company plans to activate iPhone users in waves, with the first group receiving a mass SMS message at around 10 a.m. Eastern Time, and continuing throughout the day, assuming all goes well.

Update: AT&T has posted a message on its Facebook page, stating that the MMS rollout will begin “late morning” Pacific Time on Friday. The full message reads, “[w]e know you’ve been eager for this service so we wanted to offer a quick update on the launch plans for MMS on Friday, Sept. 25. Late morning, Pacific Time, on Friday, the new carrier settings update enabling MMS should be live and ready to download through iTunes. We’ll provide the steps and all of the details you need right here at that time.” "

I don't understand why everyone has such a hardon for MMS. I don't even have texting enabled on my phone.

Honestly it's not a big deal to me either. We got our iPhones knowing we couldn't do MMS texts. And we've been fine for several months without it. I thought i'd share with anyone who may have an iPhone and was interested though.

21st century my ass. You step into the 21st century and get instant push email notification. That completely negates the need to pay carriers ridiculous texting fees. It would cost me an extra $30 a month to get unlimited family texting that brings nothing to the table that email doesn't already handle.

SMS/MMS are about as 21st century as fax machines. Don't even get me started on those.

For all you 21st century schmucks that cling to your text messaging like Titanic survivors, I have Google Voice.

You have google voice's website, not complete google voice because apple stripped you of that. You lose a lot of neat integration features because of that.

Not everyone uses push email on their phones, text messaging is still easier than push email because most phones have it setup in contacts to just text message and you have to find the work around to push email. So you aren't really gaining anything but annoying the large majority that uses text.

Hmm, a feature that most other phones have had for 4-5 years now.
