Sooooo, since he chose not to take his meds and took the pain pills instead, would this be considered suicide?

That's an abscess and I've had one before. It was painful. I bet his wife sues the doctor for allowing him to take the pain meds over the antibiotics.

He gave him a prescription for both and he choose to only take the pain meds.

If only he gave him the meds, and not just a piece of paper telling him he'd be needing to buy the meds, and then try to pay for them.

It's pretty obvious that the guy made a lousy decision.

This is not in question. The point is, that in one of the most advanced nations of the world, he was forced to make this decision...wrong or right.

...and that, well, that's what's wrong about this.

To me the point is that the guy didn't look at all his options. He wasn't forced to make this decision. He didn't seek out other options. The guy was unemployed, he could have made getting into a free clinic or treatment his full time effort, what else did have to do all day?

You would be surprised how many people don't know they have options like that. Especially a high number of the "new comers" to the un-employement gang. They are use to being the ones paying into the system not collecting from it.
