Bug Guts
So, I kill a lot of bugs when I ride. Tonight, I went out to clean off the bug guts with my trusty Turtle Wax Bug & Tar remover. One particular big splotch seems to have damaged the clear coat. Can this happen? I have the guts cleaned off of there, and no matter how much I rub, if you look at it at just the right angle, there's a "phantom" splatter there. Is my clearcoat jacked up?

I believe that is more like a water spot. It will fade over time. Ever seen what water drops to hot chrome does? Or how your black tinted glass gets water spots if you don't dry it and its in the sun? It takes like 2 or 3 washes and time to get rid of the spots. Same concept.

I ganked a bottle of the stuff we use at work to clean the windshields on commuter jets. It's amazing how easily it cleans the 200+ mph bug splats off from during takeoff and landing.

I went on a kamikaze run last night just cuz it had to be done - sunset ride it was like 68 degrees perfect weather so i did the back to back to back to back run where I ride 4 different freeways in a loop and then i ended up on some back roads after dark blasting through hoping a possum or or deer or something doesn't run or walk out on me... my point is though my bug splats were so bad I could barely see after about 10 minutes of riding..

I made the decision very early this year that I was going to stop cleaning my helmet... it already looks gnarley.

I clean my helmet about as often as I wash my jacket. About once a month to keep the stink from getting too bad.

Even your visor? I would be literally unable to see out mine after about three days of commuting home from work at night.
