Question Why do HP laptops suck?

This is the 4th HP laptop I've had that has problems connecting to a docking station. If you put it in or take it out while it's still running, it often crashes. And this is the docking station that CAME with it. I mean let's think about what a docking station does......It simply provides mouse, keyboard, and AC power for your laptop, and transmits your display onto your monitor. That's ALL. So why would that crash the computer?

Probably one of the connectors. Shit happens to desktops if you plug in or unplug the old style mouse/keyboard connections. Some times when I disconnect the monitors DVI connection then back in, it wont come one and I have to restart.

The connectors aren't being messed with. Only thing that's being touched is the big docking port on the bottom of the laptop.

Thats still a connection. One big connector that is made from other connections. Also could be a windows thing. It knows it's in a docking station so it changes setting (power settings for example) and then when you take it off, it changes things again.

I don't see it changing anything besides the power settings, and I don't see why those would fuck up anything. If I yank the power cord, my power settings change, but my laptop doesn't crash, so why should it crash when I undock?

You say there's a video connection in there, too (and USB for mouse and keyboard)? All kinds of opportunity for the OS to freak out when connections get changed. I used to have a macbook that would crash about half the time I disconnected my external display.

Toshiba all the way. This bad boy has survived 3-4 years of little virus protection, HD video editing, illegal music downloads, and constant pr0n sites. Never had it crash (even after jinxing myself before).

My GF's HP did fair better than her macbook.
