Maiden Tour
Cliff Notes - sorry, still long:
This is my first long trip on the bike. Was a very good one and was excited to go. Left home around 7:20 Saturday morning. Met up with another guy. Heading to Portsmouth, OH to meet up with some others. Headed south on Route 7 toward Whiteburg, KY. Started getting late so we took a shortcut on the highway. Rolled into the hotel around 7:00 (maybe) where we met up with some more guys on Goldwings (the rest were on a sport bike of some sort). I had a personal goal of 400 miles in one day, was 5 miles short so I went down the road and back. Sunday morning we got up and rode down into Cumberland, KY. Met with up Goldwing group since they had started out earlier. Rode up Black Mountain, took some pics. They went on into VA, the rest of us turned around and headed back down the way we had come. I wanted to say I was in VA, so I rode just past the sign then did a U-turn. Eventually we found some good roads that I approved of - sweepers, none of this tight switchback 180 degree stuff. We were heading north toward Huntington, WV but going about it the long way. Found one REALLY good road, 201. Boy was it NICE. I was so worn out after that stretch I could hardly go anymore. We did about half the miles as the previous day but they were hard miles. Today we headed home. We kept dodging the rain. Stopped in Zanesville, OH for lunch and while there it rained. Fortunately it stopped by the time we wanted to leave and we only had to ride on wet pavement for a short bit (through town for the most part). By this point our group of 12 had dwindled to 4, eventually 3, then to just Erik and I the closer we got to home. It was a great trip. Everyone stayed up right. There was only one issue with one of the bikes a fuel pump relay or something like that. Relatively easy fix. Bike is filthy. Glad to be home but I need a vacation. Total mileage was 878 miles (the one picture is missing the mileage from home to gas station where I reset trip). Here are some pictures - http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...0-%20Kentucky/ |

SHIT. I thought this was going to be about Iron Maiden's upcoming US tour. BTW, I'm hoping to hit Pitt for that gig.
But, sounds fun.
