Mason Dixon 20-20
So I have been very interested in doing an endurance rally for a while now, but never really got the motivation to actually do one.
BUT. I really would like to take a crack at one and this one is coming up soon. http://www.masondixon20-20.org/2009/index.htm Anyone have any thoughts?

I'd love to do that kinda big ride/scavenger hunt kinda thing. I know he's posted here before, but hit up Rocket Cowboy for some knowledge. I believe he did a ride report for the Texas Two Step about two years ago, and he's got that kinda shit down. Also, check out http://www.sport-touring.net for some pointers on getting prepped for that kinda ride. They might be able to help with stuff you might not think of.

and how do you have MANDATORY Bonus locations? bonus usually means optional... so mandatory optional locations?

Its all on road, with the possibilty of some locations being off road.
The key is to hit the mandatory bonus locations, plus a few other bonus locations along the way. Each bonus location is worth a a set point value, and the key is to finish with the highest number of points. Hitting the high bonus point locations usually means that you have to go far, or hit a location at a certain time. It is very much a planning event, if you can plan the right route and hit all the right locations then you have a chance to do good, if not then you dont. The mandatory locations ensure that you get at least 1000 miles within the 24 hour period, although I did a quick route, and the shortest route took me through just under 1000 miles, but over a 28 hour period. The quickest route has me at a little over 1100 miles but in 18 hours. Take into account 20 minutes per mandatory stop, plus a stop at the rallys founders grave to lay a flag, 3 meals and a minimum of 7 gas stops, a big bonus for a rest stop of at least 2 hours, and I'm already over my 24 hour period, although it could be slightly more than 24 hours, they wont give any more details until the week before it starts. Plus they want folks to hit other stops along teh way to get extra points, its a planning nightmare already.

If I were going to do a rally, I'd do one with a more open route, not grinding around the northeast traffic corridor Last edited by unknownroad; 01-23-2009 at 04:18 PM.. |

That sort of stuff is something I would like to get into as well. Its been hard the last few years since I was so into track days, an dprolly would do more of the same this year if we werent looking for a house. So now some weekend touring and mountain rides will be what i can do this year.
