X Box 360 or PS3 - which one to get ???
Being a father of 4 & kind of out of touch with the new consoles....help me out with my Xmas shopping. Which one is better & if it's not too much trouble, why is it better? Last years purchase of a Nintendo Wii seemed to be a mistake & they seem bored with the old PS2.

Xbox360 because Xbox Live is so much better than the PS3 alternative. Especially true if you already have a Bluray player.

better be for fifty bucks a year. hey 'puter find out which system their friends have. maybe talk to their parents. both systems have good points. ps3 has better hardware and flexibility for non gaming applications xbox has a better game catalog (because microsoft pumps out bribe money like an incumbant democrat come election time) whatever you get make sure it goes in a well ventilated location. that goes double if you get the xbox

True, I should've mentioned that the Xbox has/had SEVERE reliability issues. Myself and everyone I know with an Xbox is on their second or third replacement. Microsoft is pretty good about replacing them quickly though.

a lot of the dreamcast guys ended up at microsoft. dont know how much influence they had though. all playstations owe their lineage to a canceled nntendo project to add a cd system to the snes. nintendo fucked sony on a nearly complete project and sony fucked back.

only launch consoles. 60 and 20 gigs. these came with both the emotion engine and gpu from the PS2 built into their motherboard and can run any ps1 ps2 or ps3 from your region. i think some of the early 80 gigs had a software emulator built in but it has since been discontinued and may have been retroactively removed via firmware updates. im not sure. i have a 60 gig. now, there have been lots of rumors and a few patents filed for new emulation software but sony hasnt said anything yet. my bet is they start selling ps2 games via PSN and drop the emulator in a future software update bt considering how long it took them to get US approval for PS1 games it could be some time. best bet would be to check gamestop for a refurbished unit.
edit, theres also an adaptor that will let you strip your save data from your memory cards and create virtual ones hosted on the PS3's hd. ought to be dirt cheap to find since only the early ones can use it. the ps3 will also work with any usb pheripherals you had for your ps2: eyetoy, lightgun, etc

You won't go wrong with either one.
I prefer my xbox. But, the ps3 is no slouch. |
