Ok, so argued isn't the right word. I spelled out exactly why "you don't get it" and you reaffirmed it by saying "Making a kid kill a hamster is not child abuse".

Absolutely agree.

I think the degree/relative 'animal cruelty' can be argued all day long, but there is no rational argument against what that mom did being an extremely eff'd-up, psychologically abusive crime to commit against that poor kid.

Telling a child to kill something he has "parented", cared for, and perhaps loved sends the most horrific messages about what a mother is capable of here. The psychological crime against this child should be obvious to anyone with a fucking brain.

The mother did it becuase the kid didn't get his grades up...she probably ran out of options and thus taking something he loved (whether it be a rodent or his PS3 in not relevant) away permanantly. Sounds more like obedience training than abuse to me.

I would have gotton my ass kicked for shit grades....but that option would have def. landed her in jail.

If the kids grades still don't improve the dog is next...with the chainsaw!

It's pretty easy to see what bad parenting can do...

I'm guessing you not only weren't really properly held as a child...but that in fact, you were dropped...often....and on your head.

Searching around the net, the story may not be all it appears to be. Apparently it was a gerbil and there is some question of trustworthiness of the child and mother about what actually happened. Just your typical fucked up family.

Apparently the child told a teacher what "happened" and the police are still trying to verify the truth and the reporters ran with what the kid said to the teacher.
