You guys think it will make much of a difference if I just change the fork oil first and do springs and stuff later?

Forks need to be completely extended. If u don't have a front stand, throw a cinch strap over a ceiling beam in your garage and loop it around your triple clamp. Also pull on the forks, otherwise they won't fully extend.

I have an SW Motech center stand and I put a jack under the engine up front to get the front off the ground. Thanks though

Be careful when you unscrew the caps, they'll still have a little bit of spring pressure on them.
