The tablets that are out now use Windows 8 RT which is the mobile version of the software, the Windows 8 Pro tablets use the full OS and have full power ultrabook components.

I bought a new system. I have had it less then a week so far. Windows 8 isn't so bad. I think people don't like change. I still need to get use to it. Its kinda like someone reorganizing your dresser. Its pretty much all there, you just can find any of it.
I bought a Dell XPS 8500, i7 3770, 12 gb or ram. So far it is pretty good. I also bought a Dell touch pad because everyone seems to complain that it is designed for a touch screen and it makes it hard to use. It seemed cool for a second but I have been using a mouse for the most part without an issue. For the pad the two finger scroll was messing up but I think I just figured out that you have to spread your fingers for it to read it correctly. The three finger swipe is pretty cool. Three fingers down the pad brings you back to the start area with all the tiles. Swipe again and your back to the browser. James

I have gotten used to it. Not as much "hate" as before, but still some dislike. Still some backwards compatible problems with games which sucks. Will probably move 8 with laptop HD onto my broken laptop and install 7 onto my new 2TB HD that I just put in the desktop.

I'm looking for a windows 7 machine for my parents. They aren't that tech savy and really don't like change. They have XP now, so it would be the easiest transition. Sadly, there are becoming fewer and fewer 7 machines available.
If anyone has a good place to pick up a new laptop, 15+ in screen, not a dell, for around $500 or less, let me know. |

Yep. Windows Blue (next release due later this year) is supposedly going to have a way to turn off the tiles and use the OS like a traditional Windows desktop when desired by the user.
I personally hate Windows 8 on PCs but think it's great on tablets and phones. My Surface is really slick and my Nokia Lumia 920 as well. I'm going to try using it as my daily phone for a while to see how I like it. Right now I have to get used to what I feel is odd button placement on the Lumia and also there's a few apps Windows doesn't have which would make my life a little less convenient. I'm hoping they will find their way to Windows 8 phone OS soon. |
