My 4 year old daughter has been on more flights than she is years old. Can't even begin to count the number of flights I've been on.

Not in my current role but I have in the past created FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) documents before...on airplanes, so I know how many things have to go wrong(not including outside influences like weather or terrorist activities) before a plane will go down. You do know every flight critical system on the plane has a least a dual and sometimes triple redundancy for backup.

Maybe if you were an engineer in the aerospace field you might have a little more understanding of how safe flying really is. The only problem is, when shit goes bad, it's big. Sure I hate sitting next to a smelly 400lb man sweating his balls off but that doesn't happen most of the time nor do the screaming out of control kids. That's the stereotype mentality that gives the airlines a bad name. Well, flight delays do that too but in general I find flying a pleasant experience. I plug in my I-pod and I fall asleep.

I have been in two planes ever. One was a 4 seater cessna in the 70s, and I cried for the whole 2 hour flight each way(I was 4 or 5). The last time was in a Pitts S2b stunt plane, and I asked the pilot to land as soon as it go up to about 1000ft. That was enough for me.

I can't wait until the 18th when I go to Cuba. It will be interesting.

yeah I understand the redundancy, you wouldn't want a nuke plant relying on single systems would ya?

Yeah I suppose more knowledge in that area would help me, but it could make it worse. There is some places in the plant I really don't like to go.

I need to clarify mine some. I hate commercial flying. I love private flying. Me and my dad use to fly his Cessna all the time. That shit is fun, but my mind is occupied because I actually get to do stuff and am entertained.

Me too. Been on more flights than I can count and I've slept on almost every one of 'em.

Yeah you don't ever want to work the flight line and see troubleshooting methods of some of the line techs. That would scare the shit out of me.

Nah, he's an old pro now. Just over two and I think next month will be his 8th flight or so. He stays pretty quiet, but it just takes so damned much effort from us to keep him that way.

If they ever followed through on that rule where they told me I had to put my laptop (with some Pixar movie playing) away for the last hour of the flight, I think I'd probably lose my shit.

Yeah, knowing you... I couldn't imagine him being out of control. That is, unlike my ex-husband's child that would be better off raised by wolves...
