What is an obvious US citizen? (living in Az, sometimes it is confusing)

BTW, I think they would make sure you weren't contagious, and then put your ass in the kitchen or on laundry detail.

Sorry guys, I worked last night and slept in today.

If they came to the ER they will be seen no matter what, we cannot turn anyone away because of no ins or documentation.

As far as our clinics they may not get seen or treated there though because they/the hospital wont get paid. However kings county hospital will see them since the city wil foot the bill for the uninsured.

Hey, I can answer this question because I deal in this part of it.

Like Tommy said, if it's an emergency, they won't be turned down. Turning someone away from an emergency room with an emergency situation because of financial reasons is a nice big EMTALA mess. Depending on the hospital and how they have things set up, it can go a number of ways. With us, a social worker will see if they can get the person into a medicaid program. Some people who come in with no SSN actually have one and either don't remember (get that a decent amount) or don't want to give it because they don't want their credit being fucked up because they know they don't have coverage and don't want to get stuck with a big bill. If they can't get into Medicaid, they'll go through some charitable organizations to see if they'd be willing to pick up some of the costs. From what I understand, we've got a bunch of great organizations that help out a lot of people. After that, the bill gets sent out to the address provided during registration (hit or miss really), and then the collections people do what they can to find the guy and attempt to collect. If they can't collect, the hospital ends up having to write it off.

That one scenario. Another is something of a preventative measure that some hospitals (ours included) use. The person comes into the emergency room and they're triaged. If it's not a serious issue, they're moved to a fast track area. A PA or Doctor (or both) takes a look at them. If it's an emergency situation, then see above. If it's an urgent care situation, then they're given the opportunity to either cough up cash to continue treatment, or leave without any charge. If it's this kinda situation, the treatment is generally going to be something quick and simple like giving them some motrin or some other OTC shit. They can either pay about $200 for the privilege of a doctor giving them that shit or they can do what a normal person does and go to a fucking CVS or Walgreens and buy a thing of Tylenol and stop being a stupid hypochondriac asshole and wasting everyone's time. Most people just want to know that they're not dying, so that works out really well. So the 10 or 15 minutes it takes for the Doctor or PA to determine it's not an emergency ends up saving a bunch of time and money, and is fully compliant with EMTALA laws as well.

I think they all get life flighted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta.

Now why can't we just set them up with some medical students or 1st year interns? Let them take a shot at some shit. "Oh you're interning to become a pathophysiologist? Take a shot at open heart surgery when you get the chance".

I have an idea. We should have a section called "I'm feeling sick", "I got a rash", "my crotch burns" and we ask Tommy questions.
