Because we all know that incarceration in itself is such an effective method of rehab and of course it's a terrible thing to instill some sort of work ethic in these folks.

They cook the meals, do the laundry, and stamp license plates for $0.25/hr, I fail to see the difference here.

And as far as the reason they are incarcerated, you can debate the usefulness of the laws - if they make sense - but the truth is, these folks chose to break the law with a full understanding of the consequences. They made their bed... It's not like anyone NEEDS to sell drugs or somehow believes it's a legally accepted method of employment.

If incarceration isn't working, change the system. As of right now, you have a whole heaping shit pile of incarcerated people who will never repeat offend because they did not enjoy being locked up like rats.
