People younger than that usually want a more "macho" vehicle, because they're still in that whole "being hard/badass/gotta protect my masculinity" stage of their life.

I agree. For me it comes down to two things, utility and value for money. If I were making this decision right now it would be impossible for me to pick a Mini over a Mazdaspeed 3.

This pretty much had been my argument through the years for owning a Vette when someone wanted to call it a "mid life crisis car". Some of the same principles apply. I couldn't afford a new Vette when I was 20 and single.

Get a little older...make more $$...no kids in the house and first thing someone says is oh "mid life crisis".

Yet it is the men who get mocked for mid crisis.

"Midlife crisis" is a phrase used by young people jealous of the material goods owned by older people.
