Small town values, if they do exist, exist simply because people KNEW that if they weren't polite to each other, it would come back to bite them quickly, given that it is such a small group of people. It isn't because there is something intrinsically "better" about small-town people.

Walk away from them, though, and the back-stabbing commences.

You have a one track mind, with no train on it.

Yeah, but then they'd have to walk to Bismark.

they may have fared better if they had dumped the Lexus, and the bling.

we moved out from the city to the sticks, we had Ford truck and Chevy car......but I had that screaming yellow thing right? (CBR600f4I)

funny as soon as I bought the HD people stopped talking about the bike I rode. LOL I didn't do it because of them talking, I actually thought it was funny to listen to them talk about the bike, but it was a topic of conversation.

you'll never be a "part of the community" in a small town but you can do things to help yourself fit in better. Not trying to compete with a local business would be one way.

really want to have fun go to the local bar on a sat night. LOL they just sit and stare. I'm too bullheaded to leave though so now they actually have our drinks on the bar when we walk in. Just takes time.

I love the midwest and small towns as such. One of the reasons I love it so much is cause it keeps the stupidity and rif raf out somewhat.
Granted I was born and raised in such a place, so I wouldn't "fit" in the big city either.

If you move into a small town with big bling, people will wonder where the money came from, and what you are doing there.
If your first move is to try to open a business to compete with one of the few businesses already in the small community, you can expect some resistance. After you file a restraining order against the owner of the competing business, you can expect the town to dislike you.

The EXACT same things go on in large cities, you just can't see them as they do not have as big of an impact on the individual.

You can't tell me that in larger cities in the south or on either coasts that there aren't 200 some odd people that hate a single family for whatever reason, and refuse to be a patron of their business. It happens, it's just not apparent cause the other million people don't give a shit.

"refuse to be a patron of their business"

You are mistaken.
