My PS3 plays ps/ps2 games without any cable or software?
Perhaps they fixed that in one of the updates that happens spring on me anytime I wanna play COD online. And I vote PS3 for various reasons already mentioned in thread. |

I love the PS3. Plenty of games, free online, and possibly the the best Blu-Ray player/network media player you can get.

You don't read the posts do you? He already has a Wii.... He's wondering which other system to get since his kids, like myself, got over the Wii in about 5 minutes.

I have had both as well. PS3 is gone, not going to bother with blu ray and replacing my movie collection, I don't even buy movies any longer. Streaming or a netflix program is easier. Blu ray won't last long enough to matter, ON Demand is the future.
If its for games, XBox 360, no contest. Pretty much all the best exclusives have gone to the 360 (yey metal gear). On games that are on both systems, I would take the 360 again. XBox Live is worth the pay service for how shitty PS3's online is. The reliability issues seem to have become much less. They finally got that ring of death issue under control and they will replace it quickly if it does happen. They have been very good about it.

The 360 does have parental controls that allow you to mute everyone except for the people on the childs friends list. I can't say whether the PS3 has that or not.
I'll second the motion of finding out what their friends have. If you go with the 360, be prepared to spend $50 a year on an xbox live gold account. In my opinion it's worth every penny, but it's a dealbreaker for some folks. If you don't have an HD television, you won't see any benefits from watching blu-ray movies on the PS3, and some text in the games on both consoles may be hard to read. If you *do* have an HD television, the PS3 is one of the best blu-ray players you can buy. In my house, which is probably very different from your situation, here is how it breaks down. The 360 gets all the games, my friends are mostly on 360s so that's where I go. The 360 also has an excellent netflix application that streams their instant queue movies and shows to the tv. The PS3 is there to play the blu-ray discs I rent from Netflix and to play the occasional PS3 exclusive game, (heavenly sword, uncharted, little big planet) The Wii collects dust... somebody mentioned that you can browse the internet on the PS3, while that is technically true, I've found it painful at best. Save the net for the PC. Last edited by abrinson; 10-21-2009 at 02:54 PM.. |

Tough choice. You need both. The xbox because it is a far superior gaming machine, better online play (even though its not free), better dashboard and all.... but you need the ps3 to play while you wait for your xbox to be repaired or save up to buy a new one because they break more than a union worker.
