Half your issues (the txt & photo ones) are probably due to AT&T, not the phone. AT&T is garbage when it comes to sending/receiving messages properly, in my experience. I send photos nobody receives, I get message flags without ever getting any audio alerts, and I have to reboot after landing in another time zone. AT&T blows the brownstar IMO.

For the record, I think his issues are more hardware-related than network- or OS-related. I have the exact same phone and the exact same network.. but no where near the amount of problems that he has had. BUT... as Particle mentioned, it's all about choice and fit to the individual using the phone. If it isn't a good fit, it isn't a good fit.
My personal preference now is Android over iPhone or Blackberry. Although I am half-tempted to check out that new Blackberry that's out. The only reason I'm really considering switching to a different network is the fact that AT&T doesn't currently have 4G.

I'm ever convinced that all technology [phones, computers, toys, vehicles, etc.] will have their limitations. And, there are lemons in each category. I'm quite sure the iPhone is a great option - but, since I don't have mac anything I choose Android. I'm VERY happy with my phone and I've had it since they came out. The one thing I wish it had were the ability to walk into a store and have an accessory available to it. That is where iPhone has hit it out of the park over ANY other option. Every other avenue they all have their ups and downs.

I have had the Droid X for months and have had ZERO problems with it....been back to Boston with it...in the mountains of Colorado...all over the midwest...and it just WORKS. It's running Froyo and it does everything I ask of it. I honestly have no complaints....no complaints about the service I receive from Verizon either.
Maybe you just got a lemon of a phone? |

Ok, Moira, I called HTC just now.
Here's what they said. The message sending issues from the summer. Could be SIM card provisioning, but I already discussed this with ATT back then and they were of little help on that front since they "don't sell that model phone", and didn't think that was a problem anyway. Regarding the random deletion of text messages. "Huh, that's weird." Only answers they were able to provide were don't text as much, or possibly the Advanced Task Killer app was causing a problem. As a last resort, wipe the whole thing to a factory reset, which I'm probably going to do shortly anyway. Regarding the button mapping, he thought it was a software problem. Regarding rooting, these issues were present before rooting the phone. Part of the reason I rooted it were to see if I could resolve some of these things. The memory issues are mine and mine alone. I've deleted some apps, moved some apps, cleared some cache, and deleted some pictures to make room elsewhere. I'm going to mess with it. We'll see what happens.

Id have THEM push the factory reset. Then, at the very least, if it punts it it's on them.
