Actually, she's a good allegory for modern society.
We continue to soften the consequences for bad decision making and thus allow bad decision makers to continue to live and pass on their bad habits rather than being taken out as nature intended.

Hey, I had a bowl cut as a kid and, thus far, my Mom is still alive and well.
