I HATE walking into a house, having a tiny little landing and the choice of up or down!

I want to be on one level or the other when I walk in the door.

Most of the ones around here have such small landings that there is barely room to stand and open the door, so that's an issue.

I really dislike the 3 and 4 level houses! Such a waste of space IMO.

I vote one story because I like my family so I actually want to be around them. So really, I hate big houses(anything over 1800 sq ft is too big) so to me there is no need for two stories in a small house. That probably doesn't help.

I also HATE HATE HATE fireplaces. I can say that because I live in Texas and there is NOOOOOOOOOOOO need for a fireplace in Texas. It is a waste of space and it makes me angry when there is one! /rant

I voted 1 story but that only reflects my attitude toward housing in this region (Florida) which I believe is similar to Las Vegas. Most of the 2 story houses here feel much more cramped than a single story of comparable size. Most of the 1 stories are split bedrooms with an open floorplan, while the 2 stories have walls everywhere and no vaulted ceilings. Basements are a non-issue since they are a very rare exception here.

In other areas of the country the only single story houses are poorly built shoeboxes. That would obviously change my opinion.

My preference is 1 story, no particular reason and I've lived in 1, 2 and split levels.
